ARLINGTON, Va., July 21, 2011 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced an agreement to acquire Solutions Made Simple Inc.
SMSi employs approximately 65 people and is based in Reston, Va.

Once acquired, SMSi will operate within the Information Solutions division of Boeing’s Network & Space Systems business.

“Our customers continuously look for better, more cost-effective ways to manage data across disparate networks, and SMSi has terrific capability to do that,” said John Hinshaw, Boeing vice president and general manager of Information Solutions. “We’ve worked with SMSi for a number of years and see their team and products as strong complements to our existing capabilities.
If you’re interested in data management, servers and integration, check out the Twister booth in the Carahsoft Partner Pavilion on the expo floor here at DoDIIS. Twister enables ingestion of disparate data sources to provide a searchable, extractable, and highly usable data layer to bring information from across the enterprise, to users throughout it. Twister offers LDAP integration to identify users – and define roles and access.

Twister offers the ability to read and write Oracle, SQL, MySQL and other such databases. It can ingest structured data as well unstructured data – providing the capability to process XML, CSV, PDF, DOC and HTML (among others).

The Twister Data Integration layer sits between your choice of databases and your choice of extraction, search or discovery tools. Providing source and extraction agnostic data integration services enables installation on any system – saving administration from forklift upgrades.

As data sources grow, and gigabytes turn into petabytes, scalable data integration solutions are key to mission success. Pulling in multiple data sources and types, Twister spits them out into clean, usable data for extraction, analysis and aggregation.

Date: Wednesday, November 10, 2010
Time: 11am Eastern; 8am Pacific
Duration: 1 hour

SMSi’s Twister Data Integrator is designed to enhance the overall user experience with the Hadoop framework. Twister allows organizations to extract, transform, load, and manage massive Hadoop clusters. Twister manages all interaction with the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), allowing complex data transformations to take place seamlessly without the complexity of command-line interaction.

Once files have been pushed to the framework, Twister manages job scheduling and execution of the map and reduce operations. Through an easy to use graphical interface users can add Map / Reduce operations to complex business intelligence operations.

Twister alleviates the burden of writing custom code to get data into and out of the Hadoop cluster. The abstraction layer provided by Twister makes using Hadoop easy and transparent to an organization’s data layer.

Customer uses for Twister Data Framework® include:

Management of Hadoop clusters

Creating data ingest pipelines

Populating data marts or data warehouses

Accelerating data migration projects, including SQL to XML

Deploying text analytics applications including entity extractors and machine based translation to process unstructured or semi-structured text

Implementing Federated query and Cross Domain Query capabilities

Join now to learn how Twister can help you access and manage your data. This webcast will provide:

High-level overview of Twister Data Framework®

Live demonstrations showing the interaction between Twister and Hadoop
